Who is Jesus?

Additional Information

Who is the Lord Jesus Christ?

Jesus is a man, but is not only a man. One of the clearest ways to see this is in the first chapter of the book of Hebrews:

·  Hebrews 1:8-12 gives the Fathers testimony of who the Son is:

“But unto the Son he saith, . . . And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.” Hebrews 1:8-12

Here the book of Hebrews clearly shows that the Son is the Lord who laid the foundation of the earth, and who created the heavens!

·  Hebrews 1:10-12 is a quote from Psalm 102:25-27

“When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.

I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.” Psalm 102:25-27

Psalm 102 is about the Lord God who created all things. Thus, the author of Hebrews is directly showing that Jesus Christ is the Lord God of Psalm 102.

·  The Bible states the the LORD created the heavens and earth alone, by himself.

“Thus, saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb Thus, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;” Isaiah 44:24 (see also Job 9:8)

Therefore, any person who was involved in the creation of the heaven and earth must be the Lord God by nature. With this in mind compare Hebrews 1:8-10 with Isaiah 44:24

“Thus, saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb Thus, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;” Isaiah 44:24

“But unto the Son he saith, . . . And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:” Hebrews 1:8-10

According to Hebrews, the Son laid the foundation of the earth and created the heavens, and since only the LORD did this (Isaiah 44:24), the Son must be the Lord God of Isaiah 44:24.

Conclusion: Hebrews 1:8-12 demonstrates conclusively that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord God of Psalm 102 who laid the foundation of the earth and who created the heavens. He must be the Lord of Isaiah 44:24. (This does not exclude God the Father from also being the Lord of Isaiah 44:24). We know from the Bible that Jesus and the Father are distinct persons, however this does not refute the fact that the Son is the Lord God.

·  Responding to a possible objection:

Some claim that since the Bible says in some verses that the Father created all things throughthe Son that therefore the Son is not the Lord God (Jehovah or Yahweh). The Bible however, never says that this means that the Son is not the Lord God. And the previous scriptural and logical arguments prove that the Son is the Lord God.

As to all things being created through the Son though, the Bible says that all things were created through the Lord God.

“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” Romans 11:33-36

Thus, the Father and the Son can together create all things, yet it can also be said that the Lord created all things alone and by himself since both the Father and the Son are the Lord God of Isaiah 44:24.

How long has Jesus existed for?

Since God is from everlasting (has always existed), and Jesus is from everlasting, Jesus has always existed: This is also directly confirmed by Micah 5:2

“The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.”

“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
