Evolution?

Things I wish I knew.

My story on Evolution

I started reading the Bible almost three decades ago (long before the internet).

The issue of evolution troubled me since I knew that it wasn't at all compatible with the book that I was reading (especially Genesis). I chose to believe what the scripture said about origins, at that time. I was always pretty decent at science, but figured that the evidence for evolution was perhaps just mostly speculation. Keep in mind at this time information (besides the traditional pro evolution narrative) was not easy to find.

A number of years later I stared researching the subject of origins and fortunately found some in the scientific community that provided a counter to the evolutionary version of history so commonly taught.

Im a Biblical creationist, however I have a decent "evolutionary" library that gives the case for evolution. Two books (one by an agnostic) and one (written by a design theorists) probably helped the most to understand the subject of evolution.

The following are some points that I hope will help anyone to know how to approach this issue so it doesn't overwhelm them, or distract them by bad arguments.

  • What does "Evolution" mean? In the context of the origins debate "Evolution" refers to a "naturalistic version of history in which all life that has ever existed on the earth is the result of purely naturalistic processes.." Often times evolutionists define evolution as something merely  as "a change in gene frequencies in a population" or "change over time". Such things are accepted even by biblical creationists so they aren't really helpful in this context.

  • There are actually many "theories of Evolution", not just one! In fact the theory of evolution is really a whole buffet of many theories thrown together. For example "universal common ancestry" is often presented as "the" theory of evolution, yet universal common ancestry is just one of many evolutionary scenarios. Other scenarios don't have universal common ancestry.
