Biblical Jesus
Has always been God.
“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Psalm 90:2
The only God (the LORD) that has ever existed.
“Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.” Deuteronomy 4:35
“Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.” Deuteronomy 4:35
Note: The Father and the Holy Ghost are also the LORD (translated “Jehovah” in the King James Version). The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three distinct persons, but one being (the LORD). They are not three Gods, but one God.
All things created by him.
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” Colossians 1:15-16
Came to save us while we are yet sinners.
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1 Timothy 1:15
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” Romans 4:5
The Bible warns about those who would preach “another Jesus” (2 Corinthians 11:4). Does your Jesus pass the Biblical tests?
LDS Jesus
Progressed to godhood.
“Christ, the Word, the Firstborn, had, of course, attained unto the status of God-hood while yet in pre-existence.”
What the Mormons Think of Christ brochure “Published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
That the LDS Jesus progressed to godhood is also consistent with the LDS teaching that the LDS God the Father (Elohim) was not always God, but had to himself progress to Godhood. The below references are specific to LDS teachings on their God the Father.
“. . . I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see.” Joseph Smith April 7, 1844 History of the Church, 6:302-317
“The doctrine that God was once a man and has progressed to become a God is unique to this church.” Teachings of the Presidents of the Church Brigham Young page 34.
One of many Gods.
“. . . There never was a time when there were not Gods and worlds and when men were not passing through the same ordeals that we are now passing through. . . . ”
Search These Commandments “Melchizedek Priesthood Personal Study Guide” 1984 “Published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake City, Utah” Page 153. (Quote from Brigham Young)
“The Gods plan the creation of the earth and all life thereon—Their plans for the six days of creation are set forth.”Chapter 4 heading The Book of Abraham in The Pearl of Great Price.
Note: This Chapter and the next repeatedly refer to “the Gods” (plural).
All things not created by him.
Though the LDS Jesus is claimed to have created “worlds without number” (Moses 1:33), it must be remembered that the LDS Jesus was not always a God, but had to progress to that position (see above). Prior to him there existed an endless line of “Gods and worlds” (see above). These other beings would have lived on worlds created by previous Gods, and also created their own worlds prior to the LDS Jesus attaining his Godhood. Thus, all things were not created by him.
Cannot save people in their sins.
“And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.”
Book of Mormon Alma 11:37(see also Chapter 11 heading “Christ will not save people in their sins”)
